The latest issue of The Lyme Report goes out to subscribers tomorrow and in it I’ll be taking a look at a University of Calgary microbiologist who studies Lyme bacteria and a research paper that attempts to determine how best to survey Canadians about their Lyme prevention habits.
FEATURE: The University of Calgary has a long track record of supporting research into Lyme bacteria. In tomorrow’s issue, I’ll introduce you to a microbiologist who is a driving force behind research that could lead to improved testing and better treatments for Lyme disease.
ANALYSIS: It’s one thing for public health units to encourage Canadians to take measures to protect themselves against Lyme disease, but how do they go about determining whether citizens are actually taking that advice? A group of researchers examined a couple of methods and I’ll take you through what they found.
NEWS BRIEFS: An article about the ongoing tick invasion, a researcher discusses the benefits of using citizen science to track ticks, paediatric residents worry about the impact of climate-driven illnesses on our health, and a zoologist talks about the impact of ticks on snowshoe hares in Nova Scotia.
