Preview: Issue 24
The latest issue of The Lyme Report goes out to subscribers tomorrow and in it I’ll be taking at look at the efforts of Canadian scientists to tackle Lyme disease misdiagnosis and review research into the role that OspC may be playing in the development of Lyme arthritis.
FEATURE: Tomorrow’s feature will introduce a group of Queen’s University researchers who are seeking to put some science behind the thorny question of whether Lyme disease is best defined as an illness caused by a single infectious organism or whether it is more accurately defined as an umbrella illness made up of a complex mix of pathogens and other factors.
ANALYSIS: I’ll take you through a research paper involving Canadian scientists that attempts to determine just how crucial outer surface protein C (OspC) is in Borrelia burgdorferi’s ability to colonize joint tissue where it causes Lyme arthritis.
NEWS BRIEFS: Ticks take over eastern Ontario, a book on pandemics gives insight into Lyme disease, some surprising Lyme data from Prince Edward Island, Ontario ticks are overwhelming the National Microbiology Laboratory, and a tick project in the South Okanagan yields some interesting results.
